Description
Halichoeres iridis
The Halichoeres Wrasses are hardy, active and useful fish. This wrasse prefers to be added to well established aquariums with a sandy substrate and lots of rockwork. They like to submerge itself in the sand when frightened or to sleep. Be sure all rockwork is secure because this act could make the rocks unsteady. The Radiant Wrasse will grow to be about 4 inches in size and will need substantial swimming space. When feeding them, give them a varied small meaty diet. Feeding them multiple times a day is recommended as they are very active and keeping them full will help keep them away from desirable inverts. In addition, they are known predators of a myriad of unwanted pests like fireworms and pyramidellid snails. In the wild, Radiant Wrasses inhabit steep seaward reefs in the Western Indian Ocean up to 43 meters deep.
