Description

The Pom Pom Crab, scientifically known as (Lybia tesselata), is a charming and unique addition to any marine aquarium. This small crab is gets it’s name from the distinctive behavior of holding small anemones in its claws, which resemble cheerleader pom-poms. These anemones are used for defense and assist the crab in gathering food, making the Pom Pom Crab a fascinating display of symbiosis.

Native to the tropical reefs around the Indo-Pacific region, Pom Pom Crabs are tiny, typically reaching only an inch in diameter. Their bodies are decorated with a fine pattern of brown and cream, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their environment's sandy or rocky substrates. Despite their small size, these crabs are known for their bold nature, often seen actively scurrying around the tank.

In captivity, Pom Pom Crabs require a tank with plenty of hiding spots and a stable environment to thrive. They are generally peaceful and can coexist with various other non-aggressive tank mates. Care should be taken to maintain water quality, as they are sensitive to changes in water parameters. A diet of meaty foods and detritus will keep them healthy and active. With their intriguing behaviors and minimal care requirements, Pom Pom Crabs are ideal for both novice and experienced aquarists looking to add a touch of whimsy to their marine setup.
