Montipora is a great choice of stony coral for beginner reef tanks. Montipora is considered an easy coral to keep in a reef tank and we suggest introducing this coral to an established reef tank that has been running for at least six months.
Montipora are popular corals because they come in a huge range of color morphs. Montipora coral has vibrant fluorescent colors often with small polyps that are a contrasting color to the surrounding coral tissue. We grow all our Montipora coral at the World Wide Coral aquaculture farm in Florida and stock everything on our website and In-store. You can choose from a selection of WYSIWYG Montipora or Montipora Frag Packs. We also have a few signature WWC Montipora corals, like our famous Grafted Montipora capricornis.
Something quite unique about Montipora coral is it grows in different growth patterns from platting, branching and encrusting species. Some Montipora are a mix of all three growth patterns in one! Montipora is influenced by where it is placed in the aquarium and can adapt differently depending on how close it is placed to flow and light. Branching Montipora should be placed midway in your reef with a medium amount of light. Plating or encrusting Montipora should be positioned near the bottom of your reef tank as they bleach if they get too much light. All species of Montipora coral love high flow so be sure to provide them with plenty of water circulation.
All our Montipora corals have a description including the appropriate Montipora care requirements for each coral.
