The Reef Octopus SRO 5000EXT (Super Reef Octopus) is a heavy-duty external recirculating protein skimmer designed for large marine systems up to 500 gallons. Unlike standard internal skimmers, the 5000EXT utilizes a recirculating design where the Bubble Blaster HY-5000S pump focuses entirely on mixing air and water within the skimmer body. A separate feed pump (sold separately) is used to move water from the sump into the skimmer, allowing the aquarist to perfectly tune the dwell time for maximum nutrient export.
