The Scarlet Hermit Crab is best kept in a reef-style aquarium where it will have a good supply of algae to eat. It is helpful in keeping algae under control, including filamentous algae and Cyanobacteria in some cases. They remain small only reaching maybe 1" at full adult size not including the shell. The bright red legs and yellow face are distinguishable among other hermit crabs. Caution must be taken with these crabs, as they cannot handle copper or high nitrate levels in an aquarium.
