Centropyge flavissima
Centropyge angels are favorites among hobbyists due to their small adult size, striking coloration, and generally hardy nature. The Lemonpeel Angelfish is one of the most recognizable dwarf angels, prized for its brilliant yellow body accented with electric blue highlights around the eyes and fins. Like other dwarf angelfish, Centropyge flavissima can be territorial and aggressive toward other angelfish or similarly shaped species, especially in smaller aquariums. These angelfish are typically good feeders and will accept a wide variety of prepared foods, though a diverse diet is recommended and should be offered at least twice daily. In the wild, they graze on filamentous algae, sponges, tunicates, and other benthic organisms, so providing foods with marine algae and sponge matter is ideal. Because their natural feeding behavior includes occasional coral nipping, the Lemonpeel Angelfish is not considered reef safe, particularly with stony and soft corals. Centropyge flavissima grows to an adult size of about 5 inches and is best suited for aquariums of 55 gallons or larger with ample rockwork for grazing and hiding. This species is found throughout the Indo-Pacific, including reefs of the Central and Western Pacific, where it inhabits coral-rich lagoon and outer reef environments at depths ranging from shallow waters down to approximately 60 meters.
