Ecsenius pulcher
The Gulf Blenny is a small but vibrant fish that will add color and personality to reef aquariums. They are quite active and can often be seen darting from one perch to the next. They do not have a swim bladder and therefore will require plenty of rock aquascaped to create cracks, crevices and ledges to perch and graze on. They are quite active and can often be seen darting from one perch to the next. Gulf Blenny’s are generally a blue to grey head and a yellow to orange tail with vertical stripes however, females will lack these stripes. Juveniles are generally a single color either blueish grey or orange to red. Provide an aquarium with a tight-fitting lid as they are known to jump. Omnivorous by nature, they thrive on a varied diet of frozen foods such as fortified brine and mysis shrimp with prepared algae-based foods making up the majority of their diet. They should be fed at least twice a day. These Blennies typically reach a size of up to 4 inches and should be added to aquariums of 30 gallons. Gulf Blenny’s are commonly found in shallow rocky and coral reefs near the Western Indian Ocean, typically at depths of up to 85 feet.
