Basslet

Basslets are colorful, hardy fish that make excellent additions to both FOWLR and reef aquariums. These small but territorial fish enjoy rocky environments with caves and crevices, providing them places to hide and reduce stress. They thrive in lower light settings and can adapt to daytime activity once they associate it with feeding time.

Basslets, like the Yellow and Blue Assessor, are reef-safe and grow to about 3 inches, making them suitable for smaller tanks of 30 gallons. The Liopropoma genus, including species like the Swissguard and Rainbow Basslet, is also reef-safe, though they may snack on small invertebrates. They are best suited for tanks with plenty of rockwork and should be fed small meaty foods multiple times a day to support their high metabolism.

Some species, like the Multilineatum Reef Basslet, are more predatory and may not be reef-safe, but their vibrant colors make them a stunning choice for larger tanks. Whether you're adding a Swissguard Basslet to a small 10-gallon tank or a Rainbow Basslet to a larger setup, each species brings its own unique charm to your aquarium.
